Wear your ceramics! Finished jewelry by Jangles!
I've seen "Jangles" original ceramic beads by Jennifer Heynen of Athens, GA, advertised in bead & jewelry magazines for a while, and hen I saw she wrote a book on making these beads, I was hooked! These simple beads are hand-made in every way. From a lump of clay, to wearable art! I was all over it. Our new cone 06 clay came in, which will eliminate a whole firing step, obviously saving energy in more ways than one, so we're ready to go. My talented Susan Udermann will be created some of our own beads from Jennifer's book, and we will blog about our experience. We do sell the clay in our studio and can fire the beads for you, if you decide to indulge in this adorable way to wear clay. I fell in love with this particular fall keepsake (above). How fun to pull it out of the jewelry drawer each year when fall is in the air! Available at Picasso's as a gift-boxed "kit", complete with beads, wire, & instructions on stringing it yourself, which runs $30, as well as this finished piece completed for you, for $36. Just a reminder, in our studio, you can paint bisque beads for a similar effect, in a variety of shapes and sizes, but that's for another blog! 1 of Many Unique Gift Ideas Coming Your Way
This fun and whimsical piece was painted by Crista Toler, and can be personalized with your favorite colors. Our Name Is Mud put their own spin on this piece last year, listing the 5 drawers something like "Gold, Silver, Pearls, Beads, Macaroni Necklaces". As of today, 9/23, we have 4 in stock, and you can paint one for $32, plus our $6.50 studio fee. The jewelry chest is unpainted, and you can decorate it at home with acrylic paints like Crista did. In our studio, you can paint the drawers in our underglazes, and we will glaze and fire them. A great gift for mom, sis, or any young woman. Gosh, my 4 year old admires it! Katie & Clay
My little Katie, the "ours" in our yours, mine and hours family of 5 children, was very excited (as was I) about starting preschool this fall. She was going to LCS's new preschool program, where 3 of her brothers go to school and all was good! I was SOO looking forward to 7 hours and 40 minutes of uninterrupted time to devote to my studio! WOW! i haven't had that in YEARS! Well, after being sick the first 2 days of school and 4 more days of anxiety, Katie is back with mama. She just wasnt quite ready and that's ok. We are adapting...that's why my blog and site took a couple weeks to catch up, too. That leads me to some interactive new projects that preschoolers will love! I realize, especially now, that there is truly a need for sites like http://www.polkmoms.com/ and groups like MOPS, because whatever the circumstance, there are plenty of moms, and even dads out there who need nurturing activities for our little ones. Picasso's will be bringing back Preschool Storytime, too. Until then, we have some weekend activities specifically for children:
- Saturday, Sept 20th. Clay Pumpkin Plaque 10am-11am $16
- Sunday, Sept 21st. Clay Pumpkin Plaque 2pm-3pm $16
- Saturday, Oct 4th. Clay Apple Dish 10am-11am $15
Angela Hollis, one of our managers, is an artist herself who is just wonderful with children. In fact, she's just had her first, Tyson, born in July! The children can paint this clay project the same day, and it will be ready in around 2 weeks. If you can call or email to let us know you're coming that would be helpful, Kristin@PicassosCup.com Labels: children's art, clay projects, mops, polk moms, preschool activies

Personalizable Pumpkins, Snowmen & New Friends
For the past 3 years, we've offered "hand-carved" made-in-the-USA bisque pumpkins and snowmen. Since they come with a light kit, they are quite functional as well as fun to paint. Well, our vendor has designed more shapes and I wanted to let you know right away because they do take 2 1/2-3 1/2 weeks to make. I know there are some bugs to work out of our new shopping cart, so I appreciate your help in improving. I'm one of those people who in all humility know, that this is all for you. I look forward to your feedback regarding our website, studio, and especially what ideas you're looking for in this blog. Obviously, there are countless ideas around for inspiration. All personalizable bisk now available for online ordering at http://shop.picassoscup.net/category.sc?categoryId=9 Order early so you have time to paint and we have time to glaze and fire! FYI: Once I get a few weeks of idea posts, you'll be able to leave comments. For now, I welcome your emails kristin@picassoscup.com
